Service User Rights and Responsibilities

Your Rights as a Fourcast Service User

  1. Respect and Dignity
    • Be treated with respect, fairness and dignity at all times.
    • Receive services free from discrimination based on race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, citizenship, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, family status or any other protected ground under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
    • Have your culture, identity and lived experience respected.
    • Be supported in a way that acknowledges intergenerational trauma and systemic barriers without judgement or blame.
  2. Safe and Supportive Services
    • Receive services in a safe, welcoming, trauma-informed and non-judgmental environment.
    • Access services that are culturally safe.
  3. Information and Participation
    • Receive clear information on services and limits of services.
    • Be an active decision-maker in your care.
    • Ask questions and receive answers in a way that works for you.
    • Decline or withdrawal from services without retaliation.
    • Have your cultural needs and preferences considered in your care.
  4. Privacy and Confidentiality
    • Have your personal health information protected.
    • Know how your information is collected, used and disclosed.
    • Access your personal records and request corrections when appropriate.
    • Provide consent before your information is shared, except when required by law.
    • Decide whether you want to share your Indigenous identity and cultural information and how it will be used if you choose to share.
  5. Feedback and Complaints
    • Share your feedback concerns or complaints.
    • Receive information on how to make a complaint and what to expect in the process.
    • Be supported in making a complaint if needed, including concerns related to racism, discrimination, or culturally unsafe care.

Your Responsibilities as a Fourcast Service User

  1. Respecting Others
    • Treating staff, students and other service users with respect.
    • Not to threaten, harass, discriminate or use violence.
    • Respect personal boundaries and shared spaces.
    • Respect the cultural identities of other service users and staff.
  2. Safety and Program Guidelines
    • Follow program guidelines that support safety and wellbeing.
    • Not bring weapons into service spaces.
  3. Honest Communication
    • Share information that helps staff support you safely and effectively.
    • Let staff know if your needs change.
    • Ask questions if you do not understand.
    • Share any cultural or spiritual needs that could impact your care.
  4. Privacy of Others
    • Respect the confidentiality and privacy of other service users.
    • Do not share information about others without their permission.
  5. Participation and Accountability
    • Participate in services as agreed and where possible.
    • Take responsibility for your choices and actions.
    • Work with staff to support challenges and concerns.
    • Work together to maintain and culturally safe and inclusive space.
