Fourcast is committed to delivering services in a manner that honours the individuality, dignity, and strengths of the people and communities we serve.
Our service philosophy is reflected in four values-driven statements:
- We take a person-centered approach, meaning that we believe service users have the right to make their own choices while being treated with respect, compassion, and dignity in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
- Our approach is also shaped by a philosophy of harm reduction, which involves reducing the risks and harmful effects associated with substance use for an individual and their community.
- We hold the conviction that recovery is possible for everyone, fostering hope, emphasizing personal growth and resilience, and supporting people to recognize and build on their strengths.
- We understand that meaningful support requires considering the whole context of a person’s life, including family, friends, community connections, and social, cultural, and spiritual factors.
There are a wide range of philosophies of addiction and models of recovery and change. At Fourcast, we view recovery as a process of regaining health, in the broadest sense of the term.
The ultimate goal of recovery is to live a healthy life, free from harmful impacts of substance use and/or gambling. The central beliefs that underpin this view of recovery are:
- People can and do regain their health after experiencing addiction.
- People can recover from addictions to substances and/or gambling and can learn new ways of living in the world.
- Recovery is a learning process which involves healing, personal growth, development, support, and the acquisition of new skills.
