Fourcast offers Bed-Based Withdrawal Management services at Paddock Wood. The services are available through self-referral by calling our facility directly.
What is Withdrawal Management?
Withdrawal Management is a treatment service available to people who want to make changes to their substance use and need help to get through the withdrawal period.
- (Note: formerly known as “detox”, we now use the term withdrawal management as it is more accurate, helps to reduce stigma, and promotes respectful person-first language.)
Withdrawal is a very important stage in self-directed change, as physical symptoms need to be managed to ensure safety and well-being. Service users might access Withdrawal Management at the beginning of their change journey, but can also access it during periods of relapse or managing cravings at any time.
What does Bed-Based Withdrawal Management involve?
Our program offers 6 bed spaces to male-identifying service users, who stay at our Paddock Wood facility in Peterborough 24 hours a day while they are receiving treatment.
Our multidisciplinary team includes Nurses, Withdrawal Management Workers, Addictions Workers, with Nurse Practitioner involvement available during specified hours. Together our team provides around the clock support to help service users safely navigate withdrawal and work toward their goals.
Our program provides medically supported, not medically supervised, withdrawal management services. This means we offer the services outlined above, but we are not a hospital-based withdrawal management service and are not intended to replace primary care or acute medical services.
Stays in bed-based withdrawal management are usually very short, typically 3-5 days in length. Medical withdrawal management stays are a bit longer, usually 7-10 days. Many people can achieve their recovery goals through a non-medical withdrawal program. Our staff can help service users understand the options and decide which one would be best for their needs.
Who is eligible for Bed-Based Withdrawal Management?
Click here to review the Exclusionary Criteria to help determine whether Bed-Based Withdrawal Management is appropriate for you or an individual you work with.
Please note, there are key differences between the Withdrawal Management program and the 35-day Bed-Based Addiction Treatment program, particularly the eligibility requirements.
If the Bed-Based program is not a good fit, service users are encouraged to engage in our low-barrier, community-based treatment options. Bed-based services are just one part of an extended continuum of addiction treatment services offered by Fourcast within our four-county region.
How can people access Bed-Based Withdrawal Management?
Bed-Based Withdrawal Management uses a telephone self-referral and pre-arrival screening process. The screening is completed in real time over the phone with a Fourcast staff member.
Service users must be present during the referral phone call and able to participate by answering the screening questions themselves; they are welcome to have a support partner or healthcare provider sit in on the call with them.
To begin the self-referral process, please call Fourcast’s main phone line (705-876-1292, or toll-free at 1-800-461-1909) and, when prompted, press 1 for Paddock Wood Bed-Based Services. If you are unsure of which program would best meet your needs, we encourage you to reach out for information.
